Up-and-over garage doors

The classic among garage doors

The up-and-over door is the tried and tested classic among garage doors and is a widely popular choice across the UK.

Canopy Doors Type - These doors are manufactured with a single galvanised door leaf equipped with spring mechanism at the top, lifting the door panel at the sides via cable and forming a canopy when fully open. This door type can only be operated manually.

Retractable Gear Type - These doors are manufactured with a single galvanised door leaf equipped with spring mounted spring-mounted lever arms at the sides and can either be operated manually or with an electric operator.

Installation is simple, regardless of whether it is a new build or renovation, whether it is a standard-sized Novoferm garage door completely pre-assembled at the factory or a customised door for a prefabricated garage. It offers cost-conscious buyers excellent value for money without having to compromise on attractive door designs and customised design options.

Functionality of up-and-over doors

Door Operation

Door Operation

The up-and-over garage door is the classic garage door. In contrast to the sectional garage door, the up - and - over door swings out when opening and closing.

While sectional doors disappear section by section under the garage ceiling, the entire door leaf of the up - and - over door moves as a unit. This must be considered when allocating space in front of the door.

There are two gear types for up-and-over doors, this being Canopy or Retractable. Automated options are only available on Retractable up-and-over doors

Canopy Gear Type

Canopy doors are the most popular style of lifting gear in the UK with a vast range of door styles to suit. Ideally matched to where there is limited headroom for tracks. Manual operation only.

Retractable Gear Type

An alternative lifting gear for use with up-and-over doors. Horizontal tracks are attached at the top of the door frame to guide the door open, providing an exceptionally smooth opening and closing action. Manual and automated opening options available

SPACE REQUIREMENT IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE

SPACE REQUIREMENT IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE

Due to their movement mechanism, up-and-over garage doors require a certain amount of clearance in front of the garage. The door leaf of the up-and-over door "swings out", which is why a swivelling area must be allowed for in front of the garage.

Functional principle

Up-and-over doors consist of a door leaf as a unit, supported by two lateral lever arms (retractable) or spring mechanism at the top (canopy).

Sectional doors consist of sections that are connected to each other and are pushed vertically under the ceiling

Side Hinged doors can be opened with two swing doors that swing inwards or outwards

Door slats roll up into the roller shutter box provided for this purpose to save space, similar to the window roller blinds used in domestic applications

Space in front of the garage

Compared to sectional or roller doors, the door leaf swings outwards when opened

Space in front of the garage can be used for parking a car, for example (no swinging space in front of the garage)

The space required in front of the garage must be taken into account for outward swinging hinged doors

Space in front of the garage can be used for parking a car, for example (no swing space in front of the garage)

SECURITY AND BURGLAR RESISTANCE

SECURITY AND BURGLAR RESISTANCE

3-POINT LOCKING ACCORDING TO THE SAFE PRINCIPLE

The Novoferm up-and-over door with operator and triple locking (incl. BDIP rail) protects your property according to the safe principle. This is ensured by the locking mechanism on both sides using solid bolts in the frame and the self-locking mechanism of the operator on the top edge of the door leaf.

The additional floor-independent horizontal locking system with solid bolts in the side frames is tamper-proof because it cannot be reached from the outside, even with tools. There is no more secure way to lock an up-and-over door.

ELECTRONIC ANTI-LIFT DEVICE AND SELF-LOCKING GEARBOX

Novoferm up-and-over doors with operator are equipped with a self-monitoring automatic switch-off system.

As soon as the door encounters an obstacle when closing, regardless of whether it is an object or a person, it stops and opens immediately at the slightest resistance.

Quality without compromise

Quality without compromise

When you opt for a Novoferm up-and-over door, you’ll be investing in quality. Each door is comprised of hot-dipped galvanised thin sheet metal primed with a polyester-based electrostatic powder coating. These features come together to provide outstanding protection against corrosion. Such build-quality extends to the door leaf, block frame, guides, lever arms and all other components which are also galvanised. Torsion-resistant, continuously welded frame corners and hollow frame profiles with cross struts ensure maximum stability. And because we are convinced of the durability of this design, we give a 10-year guarantee.

We don't cut corners when it comes to safety either.

This applies equally to up-and-over doors and operators. Protection of persons through automatic switch-off and self-monitoring force limitation, protection against break-ins through the 3-point central locking system based on the safe principle for up-and-over doors with system or the self-locking gear of the operator. So secure, so good. Additionally to this, there is an option upgrade security even further with our new point locking system.

That's Novoferm

Well thought out down to the last detail.

1. protects people: The door that monitors itself
The Novoferm up-and-over door with operator is equipped with a self-monitoring automatic switch-off system. As soon as the door encounters an obstacle when closing, regardless of whether it is an object or a person, it stops and opens immediately at the slightest resistance.

2. protects property: exemplary burglar resistance
The Novoferm up-and-over door with operator and triple locking (incl. BDIP rail) protects your property according to the safe principle. Locking on both sides by solid bolts in the frame, additional locking by self-locking of the operator at the top edge of the door leaf.

3. convenient opening and closing
Specially designed lever arm bearings make it easy to open and close your door - conveniently by hand or even more conveniently with an electric operator.

4. maximum functional reliability
Powerful triple tension spring assemblies ensure "feather-light" ease of use with maximum safety: even if a spring were to break, it could not jump away because it is firmly screwed in at the top and bottom. In addition, the remaining springs would hold the door securely in place.

5. additional property protection
The floor-independent horizontal locking mechanism with solid bolts in the side frames is tamper-proof because it cannot be reached from the outside, even with tools.
